Blogtember Day 5 - Most Memorable Birthday

Hey guys,

Would you look at that! With this post I am all caught up, and have tied for as many posts as I did during last years Blogtember. I'm pretty sure I can surpass my goal and knock out some more blog posts this month! Woohoo! I'm giving myself a pat on the back right now. ;)

Okay so today's prompt is "What is your most memorable birthday?"

That's a tough question. I don't know if I can say that I really do have a most memorable birthday? I mean I am grateful for every single birthday I have, and I am so lucky and grateful to have good friends and family, that threw me great birthday parties when I was younger, and spoil me now that I am older.

I do remember all my birthday's that would get rained out, and we'd be running from the pool to the change rooms to take cover from the approaching thunderstorms or torrential downpours haha. My birthday is in the middle of July, so planning to do fun, outdoor, summer activities is not unheard of. However, thinking back, it seems that about every 5 years or so my birthday falls on a really stormy day.

And then there was my tenth birthday, where I got to have a sleepover birthday party for the first (and last) time haha. My parents weren't too keen on hosting sleepover birthday parties when they already had a full house with my four brothers and me. Can't blame them for that! My memories of that birthday are slim, but only because of lack of sleep. It was so fun, but I'm not sure anyone slept in my house that night... Sorry family!

Overall though, what is most important and memorable to me, is having the people that mean the most to me around me for my birthday. If I can have a nice family dinner, and some ice cream cake, and have a chance to see all my friends, I am a happy camper. Honestly, when it comes to my birthday, I'm pretty simple to please. I don't like to make a big deal of it, but I also won't complain when my friends spoil me. They are too good to me! And I'm so grateful that they all go out of their way to make me feel special.

This year, just a month and a half ago, I turned 25. On my birthday, I was able to see all my friends, have ice cream for lunch, and go for a walk; and bake a cake (and eat it too) with my best friend! That was a pretty simple but special and memorable day, and if all my birthdays are just like that I'd feel so lucky. I know I am a lucky girl already.

Receiving some beautiful birthday flowers and getting my birthday Starbucks the day after my birthday to wrap up my weekend were pretty perfect too! :)

So there you have it, maybe that doesn't totally answer the question but that's what you're going to get from me! ;)

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you have a really memorable birthday, or what your favourite birthday traditions are!

As always,
Erica

  1. I remember that sleepover! I remember Cayley sleeping on her back with her feet up in the air. Also is that did we watch Castaway at that party? It was I think maybe the first, or at least one of the first, sleepover parties that anyone in our class had and your parents came down to hush us up so many times haha. I also remember giving you tangrams one year. And I remember playing a game where we had to blow out a candle with a spray bottle. And then another year it was at the pool at Aggie Park and your mom made a homemade ice cream cake that was delicious! Oh, and one birthday party you had in your backyard and we stamped tank tops with fabric paint and cool shapes...don't ask me why I remember this part but Michael Thom's cousin (Meghan?) was there. And then also, I don't know if it was the same birthday or not, but we were eating on the balcony and we had watermelon and there were wasps around and I was freaking out (which I still do) because who likes wasps? Wow...I think I might remember more of your birthdays than my own lol.

    1. Oh my gosh, this blog has been neglected for nearly an entire year and I am only just seeing your comments now! Sorry Catherine!! But you just totally made my day, you just brought back so many great elementary school memories! So funny too, we were just talking tonight about Castaway (because my brother's girlfriend hasn't seen like any Tom Hanks movies! Crazy, I know.) and my mom mentioned how that was the movie we watched at my 10th birthday, funny how those things are remembered!! I'm pretty sure you remembered a lot more of my birthdays than I did, but this just made me so happy thinking back to them all :) But you're totally right, Megan is Michael Thom's cousin who was at my birthday, she was my neighbour! Oh and also, I totally still have those tangrams, I loved them!

  2. Oh! Oh! One more! One year you and your birthday twin Luke had a combined birthday party at the Spooner's house and they had like some science guy there! I really don't know how I remember all this but there you go :P

    1. Yes, and that year there was a thunderstorm in the morning and I remember being all stressed out (at like 7 years old haha) that the mad science guy was going to be rained out, but luckily I willed that storm away and it all cleared up by party time. And he taught us how to make slime, and everyone signed this giant poster Mad Science poster for me that I had up until 2 years ago when I moved. I'm so impressed by your memory, and even though it has been nearly a year since you commented, it's been very cool to reminisce with you! :)
